Sie sind schon alte Hasen im Musikgeschäft. Aus ihrer mittlerweile schon fast 20 jährigen Bandgeschichte wuchsen bisher 9 Studioalben. Ihre 10. Platte »You Cross My Path« erscheint auf physischem Datenträger (CD oder Vinyl Box Set) am 19. Mai.
Man kennt das mittlerweile ja zu genüge. Um ihre neue Scheibe zu promoten stellen Bands einzelne Songs für frei (wie in Freibier) ins Netz. Aber mittlerweile scheint es sich zu etablieren ganze Alben zu verschenken (siehe Radiohead, NIN veröffentlichen ihr Neues jetzt unter CC-Lizenz).
Es bewegt sich also was.
Auf den Zug sind jetzt auch The Charlatans aus dem Königreich aufgesprungen und stellten »You Cross My Path« jetzt schon komplett frei online. Das finde ich super. Und Frontman Tim Burgess bezeichnet deren Absichten wie folgt:

We always knew this album was gonna be given away for free, even before we started writing so we wanted to make it the best album we’ve ever made. This isn’t a case of left over tracks and b-sides, we wanted to give our fans a quality record.

Nach erstmaligem Durchhören kann ich diese Qualität auch nur bestätigen. Die Musik begeistert mich. Jetzt mal schauen wie sie sich mit heavy rotation verträgt.

[Update]: Wie man im NME gerade lesen kann wurde »You Cross My Path« mittlerweile über 300000 Mal auf heimische Rechner gezogen. Das wäre, wenn es sich um verkaufte Platten handeln würde, Chartposition 2. Tim Burgess, Frontmann, kommentiert diese Zahlen mit:
